Drowning in Motherhood? How to Walk in God’s Transformative Power
Have you ever felt like you’re drowning in motherhood—trying to keep up with endless demands, losing your patience, and feeling exhausted before the day even starts?
Do you ever read promises in God’s Word—like how He’s already given you everything you need to live a godly life, or that He provides a way out of every temptation—and yet felt like those promises just don’t apply to you? Like everyone else is being sanctified, but you’re stuck, barely keeping your head above water?
I’ve been there, drowning in doubt and overwhelm, wondering why the peace and strength God promises feels so far away.
But what if the reason you’re stuck isn’t because God’s promises aren’t true for you… but because you haven’t truly believed they’re for you—right here, right now in the middle of the chaos?
Why So Many Christian Mothers Feel Stuck
So many Christians live as though God’s promises are true for everyone else… but not for them.
As a Christian mother who was struggling with overwhelm and felt like I was drowning in the weight of motherhood and then reacting in destructive ways because of that, I would read the Bible and so deeply desire to experience what’s promised:
1 Corinthians 10:13:
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
2 Peter 1:3:
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,”
Romans 12:2:
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
But in practice I had a secret doubt behind every promise. I thought this was probably true for some Christians—maybe even most Christians—but not for me.
So I continued in the same cycles that led me deep into despair as an overwhelmed Christian mother.
It took me a while to understand that the reason I wasn’t changing was because I wasn’t truly believing these truths that are already mine.
What Is Actually Stealing Your Peace

Here’s the glorious truth we so easily forget: God’s Word is true whether or not you feel it yet.
Romans 8:11 promises:
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Not someday, but right now.
When you refuse to believe these truths, you’re living as if the prison door is locked with you inside—but Christ has already flung it wide open.
When you believe, you walk in freedom—not because the battle stops, but because you fight it with the weapon God placed in your hand from the start: faith in His Word.
The Battle Begins in Your Mind
Winning in life doesn’t start with your circumstances changing. It starts with your mind changing.
The enemy goes for our minds.
Think about Cain in Genesis 4. God warns him:
“Sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, and you must rule over it.”
But Cain didn’t train his mind to master that temptation—and the sin mastered him.
Why Your Thoughts Matter

As a Christian mother, the enemy wants to control your mind so that you cannot effectively disciple your children.
If you don’t train your thoughts, your thoughts will train you.
Paul commands us in 2 Corinthians 10:5:
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
A well-trained mind is one so soaked in Scripture that God’s truth becomes the very landscape of your thinking.
Because whatever you feed grows.
How to Train Your Mind When You’re Exhausted
It starts with a decision: I will believe God over my feelings.
Here are 5 steps for how you can begin training your mind today, even if it feels impossible because you feel like you’re drowning:
1. Identify the Lie You’re Believing
Write down where you feel stuck in destructive cycles. Ask yourself: “What lie am I believing here that contradicts God’s Word?”
2. Find the Scripture That Speaks Truth Over That Lie
Pick a verse that directly answers your lie and keep it front and center all day long.
3. Speak It Out Loud Every Time the Lie Arises
When those negative thoughts come—say God’s truth out loud.
4. Act As If the Verse Is True—Because It Is
Faith is obedience. Live it out step by step, even when feelings lag behind.
5. Stay in Environments That Build Your Faith
Surround yourself with God’s Word, prayer, Christian fellowship, and gratitude. Cut out voices that feed doubt or despair.
The Power of Your Imagination

Your imagination is either a weapon for the enemy—or a powerful tool for God.
How often do you lie awake at night, rehearsing conflicts or worst-case scenarios?
What if instead, you chose to imagine God’s promises?
Romans 4:17 tells us that God…
“…gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.”
Your imagination is part of being made in His image—a divine gift that lets you see and even experience realities not yet physically present.
When you rehearse victory in your mind, you’re rewiring your brain, calming your nervous system, and creating peace.
