Homemade Candle

Candle-making has become one of my little homemaking tricks — truly embarrassing how easy it is. This week I melted down some wax, grabbed an old bone broth jar I’d heroically saved years ago for a time such as this, and stirred in a splash of butterscotch extract I found hiding in the pantry.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 1 candle

Ingredients

  • 1 candle wick
  • 1 jar of choice - mine was about 8 oz and that is the perfect size for this recipe.
  • 2 cups beeswax pellets
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 3 tbs butterscotch extract

Method

  1. use either a hot glue gun to secure the candle wick to the bottom of the jar (or do what I did and just use a bit of wax). To keep the wicks centered, you can wrap them around skewers, that you lay across the top of the jar.
  2. using a double broiler, melt the beeswax pellets and coconut oil until completely melted.
  3. turn off heat and add extract (can use any flavor, or essential oil you'd like)
  4. pour the melted wax concoction into your jar (I used a funnel so I didn't spill)
  5. If the wax hardens too quickly, melt again over the double broiler.
  6. Cut the wick as needed
